This report includes statistical data and analysis of the Japanese man-made fibre and technical textiles industry under the following headings: man-made fibre production and consumption in Japan; man-made fibre consumption for technical applications in Japan; and production of technical textiles in Japan. It also includes an outlook for the Japanese technical textile industry, and contains a wealth of recently released data for 2014. Man-made fibre production in Japan declined in 2014 to its second lowest level on record, and mill consumption of man-made fibre for industrial textile production fell to its third lowest level in ten years. There were some bright spots, however. Cellulosic fibre production reached its highest level since 2001 and production of "other synthetic" fibres reached a record high. Also, nonwoven fabric production reached its third highest level on record, nonwoven fabric production for household goods reached its highest level since 2008 and production of industrial textile goods rose for the fourth time in five years.
