FABRICS


• A bilayer textile which mimics the functions of polar bear fur and skin to suppress the dissipation of body heat is being developed by US researchers
• A comfortable ripstop fabric for military uniforms has been launched by Carrington Textiles
• A microfilament fabric which protects automotive and industrial components from electrostatic discharge has been launched by Freudenberg Performance Materials
• Ventile is to produce waterproof fabrics with a biodegradable antimicrobial coating supplied by NordShield

FIBRES


• A lightweight, flexible aramid fibre for use in the production of soft armour has been launched by DuPont

FINISHES


• An antibacterial treatment called Ionic+ Botanical which is based on citric acid has been developed for textile applications by Noble Biomaterials

MEDICAL TEXTILES


• A smart antimicrobial suture which reduces infection and simplifies post-operative monitoring has been developed by researchers in Australia
• StayFresh odour control treatment from Polygiene is being used in backpacks by Gregory Packs

NONWOVENS


• A resource-efficient method for producing spunbonded nonwovens is being used by Freudenberg Performance Materials to create a range of carpet backings
• Electrospun nonwovens which are electrically conductive and thermally insulating are being developed by researchers in Germany
