Voith – established in Heidenheim, Germany, in 1867 – is one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe. Originally, it specialised in paper making machines and turbines but in recent years it has broadened its range of activities to serve several industries, including the automotive industry, the energy, oil and gas industry and the transportation industry. In the technical textile industry, it is involved in the production of paper machine clothing (PMC) as well as the technology and production of machinery for making wet-laid nonwoven fabrics. However, the company continues to innovate, and it has established a cross-divisional research and development centre, called Voith Composites, which focuses on developments in carbon fibre composites. Furthermore, in 2016 it established its Voith Digital Solutions division in order to become the preferred partner for developments in mechanical and plant engineering for the "Internet of Things". Looking to the future, the company is focusing on areas in which digital solutions can help in the development of mechanical engineering processes. This report provides insight to the development and structure of Voith, as well as its operations in technical textiles. Also, it discusses the company's latest collaborative projects and its latest technological developments.
