The latest update in this series of reports summarises the trends which were on show at the European yarn fairs for the spring/summer 2018 season. The author of the report visited Filo, Pitti Immagine Filati and Première Vision Yarns where she interviewed exhibitors and found out first-hand which trends were proving to be the most popular. Overall, there was a positive atmosphere at the fairs, in spite of the fact that markets were affected by economic uncertainties. Fineness and transparency were key features of the yarns and knitwear on display for the season, and many yarns were smooth and refined. There was a focus on technical advances in spinning techniques, and there was also a focus on the use of new mixes and blends to create versatile yarns. A mix of colours was on display – including fresh blue, salmon and yellow, and deep green and berry shades. Fancy yarns were prominent, and metallic details were important. There was also an emphasis on environmental sustainability, and several spinners reported that they were working to remove a number of chemical substances from their processes. The use of organic fibres and recycled fibres was also evident.
