Global and regional trends in mill consumption of textile fibres |
26 pages,
published in Issue 167, February 2014
|
This report includes statistical data, insight and analyses of global mill consumption of textile fibres as well as man-made fibre production and trade covering the period 2007-12. The report covers Asia, Africa, Central America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North America, Oceania, South America and Western Europe. It includes statistical data and analysis of global trends in natural fibre consumption and man-made fibre consumption. In addition to the overall statistics, the data are broken down into cotton and wool fibres, and synthetic and cellulosic fibres. Global mill consumption of textile fibres increased to a record high in 2012, following increases in each of the three previous years. The increase in 2012 was due entirely to a rise in consumption of man-made fibres. Natural fibre consumption, on the other hand, declined. Geographically, the increase in global mill consumption of textile fibres was due entirely to a rise in consumption in Asia. Elsewhere, there were increases in consumption in Central America, the Middle East, North America, Oceania and South America, but these were more than offset by declines in consumption in Africa, Eastern Europe and Western Europe.
