The Malaysian textile and apparel industry consists mainly of small and medium size firms. However, it also includes some large vertically integrated companies, many of which are recipients of foreign investment and serve international markets. This report profiles five of these larger companies.

Mayford Group, incorporating MKK Industries and Mayford Garments, is a vertically integrated manufacturer of knitted fabrics and garments. The company is well known for its product quality and modern technology. Hytex Group is a vertically integrated garment manufacturer and the largest automated T-shirt screen printer in Asia capable of producing high quality plastisol prints. Pen Apparel, a subsidiary of Hong Kong based TAP Group, has three manufacturing units in Malaysia. The company claims to be a pioneer in the manufacture of “wrinkle free” and “easy care” garments. DNP Garment Manufacturing has six factories in Malaysia and three in Sri Lanka supplying quality garments to some of the world’s leading fashion labels. Eastern Garment Manufacturing Company is one of two operations in Malaysia owned by Hong Kong based Esquel Group—one of the world’s largest producers of cotton shirts.
