This report provides comprehensive analyses and forecasts of cotton fibre prices, production and consumption, and it equips strategic planners with information which enables them to predict the extent to which future changes in the cotton fibre price are likely to affect their businesses. In addition, it contains a detailed analysis of trends in cotton fibre prices and regional patterns of cotton fibre supply and demand for the 2022/23 season (August 1, 2022-July 31, 2023), and it provides an outlook for the 2023/24 season. Demand for cotton fibre will be lower than supply in 2022/23 with a resulting rise in stock levels. This expectation is based on a highly uncertain economic environment characterised by high inflation, rising interest rates and low consumer confidence. Looking ahead, global consumption of cotton fibre is expected to rise in 2023/24, reflecting an improvement in the global economy. However, production of cotton fibre is also predicted to rise. As a result, production will continue to exceed consumption and therefore downward pressure on the cotton price is expected.
