This report looks at general trends in the international yarn machinery and fabric machinery market and provides detailed analyses of various yarn machinery and fabric machinery sub-sectors. 2020 was a poor year for the international textile machinery market as shipments of spinning machinery, draw texturing machinery, shuttleless weaving machinery and knitting machinery all declined. Shipments of long staple spindles plunged to their lowest level on record, shipments of short staple spindles declined to their lowest level since 2002, shipments of open-end rotors fell to their lowest level since 2015, and shipments of double heater false-twist spindles fell to their lowest level since 2016. Meanwhile, shipments of single heater false-twist spindles also fell, although they were still at their fourth highest level on record. Shipments of shuttleless looms fell too but, again, they were at their fourth highest level on record. Shipments of single jersey machinery shot up but shipments of double jersey machinery fell, and shipments of electronic flatbed knitting machinery plunged to their lowest level since 2013. Trends in shipments of yarn machinery and fabric machinery to mills in China were largely in line with trends in world shipments, reflecting the fact that a large share of global shipments goes to the Chinese textile industry. Outside China, there were declines in shipments of eight of the nine major types of yarn machinery and fabric machinery to the textile industries in India and South Korea, and there were declines in shipments of seven of the nine major types of machinery to the textile industries in Italy, the USA, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. By contrast, there were increases in shipments of all nine of the major types of machinery to the textile industry in Turkey, increases in shipments of eight of the nine major types of machinery to the textile industries in Argentina and Iran, and increases in shipments of six of the nine major types of machinery to the textile industry in Sri Lanka.
