The latest update in this series of reports summarises the trends which were on show at the European yarn fairs for the spring/summer 2020 season. The author of the report visited Filo, Pitti Immagine Filati and Première Vision Yarns where she interviewed exhibitors and found out first-hand which trends were proving to be the most popular. The atmosphere at the European yarn fairs for spring/summer 2020 was upbeat--despite economic uncertainties which are affecting the whole textile and fashion industry--and sales were reported to be particularly strong at the luxury end of the market. There was a strong focus at the fairs on environmental sustainability and, for this reason, several exhibitors drew attention to yarns made from natural fibres and regenerated cellulosic fibres. Also prominent were yarns made from recycled materialsincluding recycled plastic waste. Linen yarns are gaining importance, and the variety of linen blend yarns on offer was diverse. Yarns incorporating viscose and lyocell fibres were also important, and these fibres had been used to create different effects and handle. Other notable trends at the fairs included tape yarns, raffia yarns, crêpe yarns with a dry handle, refined glossy yarns with a romantic feel, and yarns with metallic highlights and sparkling effects.
