Trends in the fibre sector are an important indicator of future trends in the textile and apparel industry as a whole. This report provides an overview of general trends in fibre prices, production and consumption by country and region. World fibre demand increased in 2015, and the growth rate was faster than that achieved in the previous year. There was an increase in man-made fibre production – mostly due to growth in output of polyester fibre – and cellulosic fibre production was also up. Natural fibre production, on the other hand, fell significantly due to declines in cotton and wool production.
