The Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show is one of the most important trade events for the UK outdoors sector. This year’s event took place from March 14, 2008, to March 16, 2008, at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), Birmingham, UK.

The outdoors market consists of various items such as boots, gloves, rucksacks, socks, tents, and waterproof and windproof garments. The UK outdoors sector was worth an estimated £1.4 bn (US$2.8 bn) in 2007 and is continuing to grow apace. As a result, it is widely regarded as an increasingly important sector of the global performance apparel market.

The show was officially opened by Bear Grylls—a celebrity best known for being the youngest ever Briton to climb Mount Everest, at the age of 23.

The objective of the show is to provide exhibitors with the opportunity to demonstrate and sell their products and services to a targeted audience. The show also offers exhibitors an opportunity to build awareness of their brand and to meet customers face-toface —which is particularly important for retailers who sell only via the Internet.
