USA-based Spyder specialises in high performance ski wear. Its highly respected products are designed for, and priced at, the top end of the market. Since the company began in 1978 it has sought to appeal to professional skiers and those who aspire to be like them. Indeed, it was founded—and is still managed—by a former Canadian ski champion, David Jacobs.
The company grew steadily until the late 1980s when its sales began to grow exponentially. “The high performance market just expanded around us”, explained Mr Jacobs as his firm saw demand for hightech garments spread from professional to recreational skiers.
Today sales continue to increase at double digit rates annually. The boost in growth has been helped by the company’s high profile sponsorship of the US, Canadian and Austrian ski teams.
Four times a year, Performance Apparel Markets provides intelligence, expert analysis and insight on the performance apparel industry.
