The need for industries to be run sustainably and socially responsibly has grown in recent years, and in the production of cotton there are several improvements which can be made – including reductions in water and pesticide usage and the alleviation of smallholder poverty. In this edition of "Talking strategy", Corin Wood-Jones, Senior Programme Manager – Global Supply at the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), explains how BCI has successfully helped farmers to use pesticides and water more efficiently while improving yields and profits.
