International trade in denim fabric and denim jeans, 2020
published in Issue 46, July 2020
This report provides vital data and analysis of trends in trade in denim fabric and denim jeans. The report focuses in detail on the leading denim fabric exporting and importing countries as well as the leading countries which supply denim jeans to the EU and the USA. Countries analysed in the report include Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey, the USA and Vietnam. Imports and exports of denim fabric were down in 2019 and, as a result, they remained well below the peaks reached in 2011. Furthermore, imports of denim jeans into the USA and into the EU declined in value terms during 2019. The world's top denim fabric exporting country in 2019 was China while the top denim fabric importing country was Bangladesh. Mexico was the largest supplier of denim jeans to the USA, but Bangladesh was the largest supplier of denim jeans to the EU. The global denim fabric industry has been negatively affected by a number of factors in recent years-not least sharp fluctuations in the price of raw cotton. These have prompted manufacturers to use a smaller proportion of cotton in their denim fabric products and this has opened up new opportunities in terms of developing new fibre blends and expanding into new markets.

This is what our customers say:
"In our work, we were looking for industry insights and trends - who the major suppliers were, which countries were producing and what, productivity rates, investment incentives, where investors were moving to and why, etc. A lot of the individual country case studies you did were great - I remember one recently on the UK for example. There was also a great article from a guy on the Turkish market and recent trends there. Both these articles were written for the layman so they were easy to understand but comprehensive at the same time. The technology articles were also interesting. Basically, it was an all-round good publication that covered everything in enough depth so that you would always find something of interest in each issue."
