Myanmar is impressing the world by the speed of its transition from a closed economy to a fast growing open economy. Indeed, forecasters have predicted that Myanmar could more than quadruple the size of its economy between 2010 and 2030. The country was excluded from global sourcing networks for nearly a decade because of economic sanctions imposed by a number of countries. However, most of these sanctions have now been removed, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the garment industry has grown at an impressive rate, and there is likely to be a surge in the number of jobs in the garment industry and in the value of the country's garment exports. In order to plan for such expansion, the Myanmar government has published a textile and garment industry sector strategy which includes plans to increase production volume, to improve quality and to develop design expertise. This report looks at the development of the textile and clothing industry in Myanmar, its size and structure, and fibre, textile and clothing production. The report also features a wealth of information relating to: garment and manufacturing equipment in Myanmar; companies sourcing from Myanmar; Myanmar's clothing exports and export strategy; the domestic market; and FDI and domestic investment. Furthermore, the report includes: an analysis of how Myanmar's infrastructure, employment, labour costs, education and training affect the textile and clothing industry; a profile of Prosperity Knitwear Myanmar; and forecasts of the future prospects of Myanmar's textile and clothing industry.

This is what our customers say: |
"In our work, we were looking for industry insights and trends - who the major suppliers were, which countries were producing and what, productivity rates, investment incentives, where investors were moving to and why, etc. A lot of the individual country case studies you did were great - I remember one recently on the UK for example. There was also a great article from a guy on the Turkish market and recent trends there. Both these articles were written for the layman so they were easy to understand but comprehensive at the same time. The technology articles were also interesting. Basically, it was an all-round good publication that covered everything in enough depth so that you would always find something of interest in each issue." |
